Can eczema be treated with homeopathy?

In my experience, homeopathic remedies can be very effective in treating eczema.

Eczema sufferers often develop itchy skin symptoms as young children.

In conventional medicine these symptoms are often treated with steroid creams. The difficulty of treating eczema with steroid creams is the suppression of the itchy skin condition. Over time and as the child grows they may be repeatedly treated with steroid creams which can worsen the condition. It is not uncommon for a patient suffering from eczema to also have asthma symptoms.

The human body always wants to express what is troubling it and always tries to express the symptom outwards. Most patients who present with eczema symptoms will often be using a cream e.g. hydrocortisone cream to help the relieve the itchy symptoms. When commencing homeopathic treatment for eczema, it is important to avoid abruptly ceasing the use of a conventional steroid cream as this tends to a worsening outbreak of the itchy skin symptoms because the body’s immune system then feels able to express the itchy symptoms which are troubling the patient, rather than suppressing them with topical steroids.

Whilst undergoing homeopathic treatment with me for eczema I may advise a patient who is using a steroid cream to combine homeopathic treatment with mixing any steroid cream with a natural cream before applying it to the skin; for example, by reducing the proportion of steroid cream by 20% – being careful to stop any such reduction at the slightest aggravation of symptoms.

There is a wide variety of homeopathic remedies for the treatment of eczema. The choice of remedy for each patient depends on how a particular patient exhibits the skin condition – for example, how long they have had the condition, the location of the symptom on the body, if it oozes a discharge.

New eczema patients have their case taken by me either in person or on the internet if they prefer. I will ask what makes the skin symptoms better or worse, including questions such as weather conditions, time of day and certain foods, whether the eczema symptoms alternate with asthma symptoms The answers to such questions help greatly in identifying the most effective homeopathic remedies.

Homeopathic treatment for problems experienced by women going through the menopause

The menopause is not an illness or disease – it is the stage of a woman’s life when her menses are coming to an end and she is moving into a different stage of life. Menopause can however cause a woman to develop symptoms which are troublesome. I treat women in my practice who have various menopausal symptoms such as flooding, hot flushes, sweating, fibroids and vaginal dryness to name just a few.

GP appointment unavailability

The difficulty some patients may experience when trying to book a medical appointment with their local GP and having little success means that patients often seek help elsewhere. This is how many patients book their first homeopathy appointment with me. In homeopathy we call these patients “TEETH” patients. This doesn’t mean they all have dental symptoms (although some may). TEETH stands for “tried everything else, try homeopathy”. Many years ago I was myself a TEETH patient. I tried many different forms of alternative help before somebody suggested seeing a homeopath. Seeing a qualified homeopath was a life changing decision for me. I myself took another degree – a 4 year BSc in homeopathy. Since 2008 I have helped many people with their health, both acute and long term.

Homeopathy for mental wellbeing in the pandemic

Homeopathy is excellent for alleviating symptoms arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For instance Argentum nitricum (Arg nit) is commonly used for fear of going out or fear of participating in activities that people once found very enjoyable. COVID-19 has led to a growth in the number of people needing this remedy.

Ignatia is another remedy which has been very useful during the pandemic given that many people are experiencing grief
